QUOTES FROM NOMINATIONS

Barrington Elementary Joy Burcham
3rd Grade
TBD “Joy is a fabulous person, which makes her that much better of a teacher!  She is very hands-on with her class – she is excellent at keeping her students reigned in, while also promoting a fun, energetic learning atmosphere.   I truly think she goes over and above in every category!”“There are nice teachers; teachers that will listen to every story. But she is different, she truly cares, pays attention and is interested in what her students, (even former students and future students) have to say.”“She is most deserving of this award and we are so lucky to have her as a teacher at Barrington!”
Greensview Kris Pavlasek
5th Grade
TBD “My fifth grade daughter came home from school the other day and said to me, “Mom, you have to nominate Mrs. Pavlasek for the Golden Apple Award!”  I asked her why.  She said, “She is an awesome teacher. Everyone at school thinks she is an awesome teacher.  She’s the most awesome teacher I’ve ever had.”“Mrs.Pavlasek is never in a grumpy mood. She’s always ready to start the day with me and my class mates. She always tells us to be nice to others and make sures everybody on task. Also when we don’t understand a math problem shes always happy to help us. She is strict when needed but when were good she acts resenable.   P.S I never tried nominating other teachers but I and my whole classknows Mrs.Pav should be the one to get the Golden Apple Award!”
Wickliffe Elementary Sue Bauchmoyer
Kindergarten
TBD “Sue has the energy, love and patience it takes to engage twenty 5 and 6 years each and every day. She involves them in so many wonderful projects and interesting units. For example, my son made his own toy during Mrs. B’s toy unit. Sue has taught both my children and she always seemed positive. Mrs. B is one of those people that would never need the recognition that she surely deserves. She would do it regardless. I am truly grateful that both my son and daughter had Mrs. Bauchmoyer as their teacher. She is wonderful.”

“Patience!  i have never met a more patient teacher than Sue Bauchmoyer.  Three of my four children had “Mrs. B” for kindergarten and I never failed to be amazed by her patience with all of her students.  For anyone who has ever ventured into a kindergarten classroom, you know it is a fun-filled and sometimes chaotic learning environment.  From the students who come to kindergarten able to read and write to the students who have not had exposure to a structured
learning environment, kindergarten has it all.  Sue’s wonderful ability to take all of those students at all different places on the learning spectrum and bring them together in such a way that every student is valued and made to feel a part of the classroom community.”

Tremont Elementary Ashley Ingram
1st Grade
TBD “She is fantastic in so many ways, especially in this crucial transitional year of first grade. I’ve watched my son grow so much (learning to read, math, writing, etc.) and yet have so much fun he doesn’t even realize he’s learning. She is great at sending little stories or video clips of what our kids do each day to keep us parents involved.”“Mrs. Ingram is a gifted teacher with incredible patience, kindness and warmth in her classroom.  It’s truly amazing what she accomplishes each day, recognizing the strengths and challenges in each student.  I truly appreciate the extra time (nightly/weekend emails) she devotes and the open communication she has with the students and parents.”
Windermere Adam Moore
Physical Education
TBD “He is one of my  favorite teachers at the school because of his great passion for teaching children about developing healthy lifestyles.  By giving children “real world” information about health, fitness & wellness that they can use their whole lives.”“Mr. Moore is an outstanding teacher – the students want to go to his class because he always makes gym fun and exciting, and he’s always coming up with new games to play. “Blacklight Gaga” is one of my daughters favorites. Volleyball Balloon day is another favorite, where you and a friend come up with different ways to bounce a balloon using different body parts, like your head, hand, thumb, foot, etc.”“Mr. Moore’s dedication to the program comes through in two key events that he runs: Family Fitness Night and Field Day. For Family Fitness Night, Mr. Moore involved the entire school in his activities, and tried to show the children that exercise can be fun and something that can be done as a whole family.  It was a super fun night for the whole family!”
Jones Middle School Jim Fronk
7th Grade Math
TBD “He really expresses his love for teaching. He always know how to help students with anything, outside or inside the classroom. He often tells us he loves being a teacher here at Jones and that makes him a great teacher. He is extremely smart about his subject, pre-algebra. I love talking to him outside of the classroom because he is a genuinely nice person and I love having him as a teacher.”“He is always willing to help. Whenever he sees you he will give you a big smile. He will always joke around with his students.”
Hastings Middle School Becky Evans
Guidance Counselor
TBD “When my son started 6th grade in 2009, he got off to a rough start.  He was sick a lot and it seemed as though he was having a difficult time adjusting to middle school.  Becky Evans, HMS Guidance Counselor, was right there helping him to enjoy school more.  She was willing to switch his schedule around a bit so that he could be with friends or a favorite teacher.  In February of that same school year, Matt was diagnosed with leukemia.  When your child is diagnosed with a life threatening illness like this, it is quite scary.  It is also scary for his friends and teachers.  Becky jumped right in with a calm presence and worked with the hospital to educate and assure his classmates that Matt was in good hands.”

“In November of his 7th grade year my son started attending school again on a part time basis.  Becky told me that she attended a workshop at Nationwide Children’s Hospital that addressed the transition back to school for kids with illnesses.  I was astounded that she thought his transition was important enough to educate herself about it.  Whether it was what she learned in that workshop of perhaps simply intuition, she made his re-entry to school as best as possible.”

“When I discussed concerns about him attending the 8th grade DC trip she was prompt in responding with options for him to be able to attend successfully.  The list goes on and on of how she became an advocate for his success.”

UA High School Kip Greenhill
Principal
TBD “Mr. Greenhill is the most amazing administrator I have ever met.  While the news is full of educational leaders who are constantly lookiing for ways to find fault with students, he looks for the best in these young learners.  He is reasonable, compassionate, and intelligent.  He treats students with respect, and he is always willing to work through problems and offer students alternatives.” ”There is real understanding about human needs, grief, fear, and struggle in Mr. Greenhill, and I think that makes him one of the best teachers in the UA school system.  Of course, he also understands intellectual excellence and the means by which students attain it.  I will miss his leadership, his reasonableness, and his incredible sense of commitment to students and their well-being.  He is a model teacher and administrator.”
Wellington School Christine Robbins
Upper School English
TBD “Mrs. Robbins has been one of the most influential teachers in my experience there. Education is Mrs. Robbins’ life — she’s seen not only in the classroom, but also on the sports field, chaperoning robotics trips, assisting student clubs, and attending theatre productions. In fact, I got to know Mrs. Robbins best when she volunteered to direct Wellington productions of “The Hobbit” and “To Kill a Mockingbird”. By caring about the whole student as she does, Mrs. Robbins fosters a sense of mutual respect between students and teachers which benefits the community greatly.” ”Mrs. Robbins has been the most amazing teacher I have ever had. She completely changed my life and has made me a better person. She puts 100% in anything she does and truly cares about her students.  Mrs. Robbins has taken on may roles durring my time at Wellington.  She was the step-in theater director, an english teacher, a counselor, and a friend. If anyone deserves this it is Chris  Robbins.”

St. Agatha School Valerie Huffman
Kindergarten
TBD “She’s so patient, has such a quiet voice and easy-going nature, the kids automatically gravitate toward her. Plus, she makes the transition almost effortless for the kids. My daughter never dreaded going to school, so there was never any anxiety or obstacle to learning. I think in large part because Mrs. Huffman makes the classroom such a pleasant, inviting pale.”

“From another staff member: She is extremely patient, especially at the beginning of the year when students are anxious and some even fearful.  She turns tears to smiles in no time.  I watch her teach respect for others, manners and a good attitude to her students.”

“She is helpful to staff as well.  I recently lost my husband and she always takes time to give me a kind word, a shoulder to cry on or even just a smile.”

St. Andrew School Julie Greiner
2nd Grade
TBD “Mrs. Greiner is a wonderful teacher. She treats each child with care and respect. She works hard to make sure that all students are engaged and learning. Mrs. Greiner instills a love of God in all of her students. She has prepared them well to receive their First Holy Communion. Mrs. Greiner teaches with an innovative style that keeps the class busy and active. I believe that these are important qualities for a second grade classroom. Mrs. Greiner goes the extra mile to make sure that each child feels successful and is even willing to stay after school to help who is struggling. My daughter has enjoyed having Mrs. Greiner as her teacher.”
Pre-School Linda Fylling & Kim Crea
BEARS Pre-school
TBD “My favorite strength of Linda’s is her ability to make everyone feel good about school and about themselves.”

“Instilling positive self-esteem is so important for a child’s early school experience, and for Linda, this is effortless because reassuring children as well as parents comes so naturally and is so much a part of who she is.  Because of her kind heart and her energetic spirit the children respond to her and they reach for the stars.”

“I remember she was there the day I came to observe and what I witnessed was children that felt secure and loved.  To see these children come up and interact with her and embrace her, I knew I was in the right place.  This was just the beginning, once I enrolled my son I was astounded on the level of commitment that she had to help prepare him for kindergarten.”

“Mrs. Crea is a wonderful teacher who two of my children have had the good fortune of knowing.  Mrs. Crea is exciting, creative, funny, wise, loving, patient, encouraging and the list goes on and on.  My kids have loved her.  When my youngest son moves on to pre-school, it will be with mixed emotions due to the relationships my children andI have formed with teachers like Kim Crea.”
